IONOS Partners with HOCHTIEF for AI Gigafactory Proposal

On June 20, 2025, IONOS Group SE announced the submission of an Expression of Interest to the European Commission for an AI Gigafactory. Partnering with HOCHTIEF AG, the goal is to construct and operate a cutting-edge data center. IONOS contributes over 30 years of expertise in digitalization and cloud infrastructure, leveraging its tech stack for large-scale AI tasks.

HOCHTIEF, a leader in data center construction, ensures robust planning and sustainable solutions, drawing from its extensive experience in delivering high-capacity projects. The proposed facility will use over 50,000 GPUs initially, with a potential expansion to 100,000, adhering to European standards.

The project seeks funding through a mix of equity, partnerships, and debt, with EU financial backing. This initiative is a strategic move towards fostering a self-reliant AI ecosystem in Europe. Following this submission, the European Commission will outline subsequent selection phases.
