Hong Kong's 2026 Budget: Strengthening Innovation and Technology

Hong Kong's 2026-27 Budget emphasizes accelerating innovation and technology (I&T) development. Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced new support measures including enhanced computing power, land, and capital to bolster the city's role as a global innovation hub. The Government plans to industrialize artificial intelligence (AI), focusing initially on life and health technology.

Chan introduced the Committee on AI+ and Industry Development Strategy, aligning with the National AI+ Initiative. The Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Institute will commence this year to support AI+ development.

Key infrastructure projects such as the San Tin Technopole and the Hetao Hong Kong Park will receive substantial funding to hasten industrial growth and research commercialization. Additionally, the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises will spearhead efforts in the aerospace sector.

Chan highlighted the importance of expanding telecommunications infrastructure to support 6G applications and establish the city as a leader in emerging technologies.
