Hong Kong Unveils Low-altitude Economy Regulatory Sandbox

Hong Kong has launched its Low-altitude Economy (LAE) Regulatory Sandbox, initiating pilot projects aimed at new business opportunities and enhanced city management. These projects, beginning in April 2025, promise to deliver a "smart city" experience.

Chief Executive John Lee emphasized the LAE's potential in fostering new industries and its significance as a strategic emerging industry. Hong Kong aims to become a hub for innovation and high-calibre talent. The initiative includes 38 projects from diverse sectors such as emergency services, logistics, and infrastructure maintenance.

Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, highlighted the value of these trials in gathering valuable data for future infrastructure planning. The government plans legislative amendments to support more advanced equipment trials.
