Hong Kong Strengthens Ties with Kazakhstan and Central Asia

A delegation led by John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is visiting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to enhance relations with Central Asia. The delegation, which includes over 70 business representatives, has already achieved significant outcomes in Kazakhstan.

On June 2, Mr. Lee announced 43 memoranda of understanding with Kazakhstani entities, covering sectors like aviation, finance, and technology. A Hong Kong airline plans direct flights to Almaty in 2027, expecting Kazakhstan to be a hub for Hong Kong in Central Asia.

Mr. Lee emphasized Hong Kong's role as a global financial center, offering support for Kazakhstan's economic reforms. He encouraged Kazakhstani companies to exploit Hong Kong's "one country, two systems" framework for business expansion.

The delegation will proceed to Uzbekistan for further engagement with Central Asia.
