Hotel Sacher Vienna Marks 150th Anniversary with Artistic Collaboration
Hotel Sacher Vienna, founded in 1876, is celebrating its 150th anniversary with an art installation at its entrance. Renowned artist Erwin Wurm has contributed two sculptures, "Step Big" and "Dancer," which feature oversized handbags on long legs. These sculptures symbolize the personal history and experiences people carry as "invisible baggage." Unveiled on March 26, 2026, the artwork will be on display throughout the year.
The owners, Alexandra Winkler and Georg Gürtler, emphasize the importance of tradition and innovation in Sacher's history. The hotel continues to be a symbol of Viennese culture, noted by Vienna's Mayor, Dr. Michael Ludwig, for its hospitality.
Hotel Sacher Vienna, known for the Original Sacher-Torte, is a family-run establishment with a rich legacy. It is part of The Leading Hotels of the World and was recently named among The World's 50 Best Hotels. The anniversary celebrations will include contributions from prominent personalities and a short film.
