Hong Kong's Policy Address: Economic Reforms and Future Prospects
Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee announced a series of initiatives to boost both established and emerging industries, attract investment, and enhance citizens' livelihoods. The focus rests on economic growth as a driver for societal well-being, under the guiding principle of "One Country, Two Systems".
Central to the plans is the development of the Northern Metropolis, seen as a new engine for economic progress. A dedicated committee will streamline processes to expedite this development. Artificial intelligence also emerges as a priority, with a substantial investment earmarked for frontier technology research.
The government aims to bolster its status as a financial hub by establishing a major gold trading market and lowering thresholds for residential property investments. Efforts to cultivate a global arts trading market also form part of the broader strategy to enhance Hong Kong’s global standing.
