Hong Kong Celebrates 50th International Dragon Boat Festival

Hong Kong is set to host the 50th Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races this weekend, June 27-28, drawing global attention to Victoria Harbour. As part of a 13-day festival, this event marks the anniversary of both the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, alongside the International Dragon Boat Federation's (IDBF) relocation to Hong Kong.

This year's festival, part of "Hong Kong Summer Fun," will feature over 220 teams from 16 nations and regions. Highlights include the 50th Anniversary Fishermen Invitational Cup and a special championship. The extended festival period, June 19 to July 1, includes cultural activities and thematic installations along the Avenue of Stars.

The IDBF's incorporation in Hong Kong strengthens its global strategy, reinforced by local government support for global sports associations. The festival celebrates over two millennia of tradition, honoring poet Qu Yuan. Traditional zongzi treats will be widely available for attendees.
