Hillsborough County chooses Waga Energy to produce biomethane
Hillsborough County, Florida, has awarded Waga Energy the contract to produce biomethane at the Lithia waste storage site. Using the company's WAGABOX® technology, the installed unit will process 4,800 cubic meters of biogas per hour, producing 180 GWh of biomethane annually. This biomethane will be injected into the local gas network under an initial 20-year contract.
This innovative facility will contribute to a reduction of 47,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year. The project is part of a circular economy approach, aiming to decrease dependence on fossil fuels. The site, operated by WM, is capable of processing over 400,000 tonnes of waste annually. By combining membrane filtration and cryogenic distillation, WAGABOX® is revolutionizing biogas recovery, guaranteeing high-quality biomethane.
