Heat Challenges Switzerland’s Resilience, Swiss Re Institute Reports
Switzerland's resilience to natural hazards like floods and storms is being tested by rising temperatures, according to the Swiss Re Institute. The country is warming more than twice as fast as the global average, amplifying risks such as health impacts and infrastructure stress.
Swiss Re launched the Resilient Switzerland Initiative to enhance risk knowledge and sharing. The first Schweizer Resilienz-Tag will focus on local adaptation to extreme heat. Prolonged heat can exacerbate health issues, particularly for the elderly and those with prior conditions, and complicate flood risks due to dry soils.
Local adaptation through urban planning and shade provision is crucial for resilience. The upcoming event in Rüschlikon will gather stakeholders to bolster cooperation and respond to extreme heat challenges.
