Hapag-Lloyd Acquires 25% Stake in APM Terminals Maasvlakte II
Hapag-Lloyd AG has entered a strategic partnership with APM Terminals by acquiring a 25% stake in APM Terminals Maasvlakte II B.V. This collaboration aims to enhance the terminal’s development, capacity, and operational performance. The investment aligns with Hapag-Lloyd's long-term strategy to strengthen its terminal presence globally, particularly in Rotterdam, a pivotal hub for the Gemini Cooperation with A.P. Moller - Maersk.
The expansion at Maasvlakte II includes an additional 1,000 meters of deep-sea berth and more yard capacity, enabling the terminal to handle an annual capacity of 5.4 million TEU. Despite Hapag-Lloyd's investment, APM Terminals will maintain operational control, focusing on improving safety, quality, and cost efficiency. Financial details remain undisclosed, pending regulatory approval.
