Gradual Return of ElecLink Operations Announced

ElecLink, the electricity interconnector between France and the UK, is gradually returning to service following a suspension since September 25, 2024, due to a detected fault. Restoration work on the cable is completed, and the final phase of assessments is underway, starting February 5, 2025. This phase, lasting until February 10, involves checks that might cause brief interruptions. During this period, capacity will be offered via day-ahead and intraday auctions.
The suspension in early 2025 resulted in a financial impact of approximately €25 million. However, by December 31, 2024, Getlink had secured nearly €168 million in revenue for 2025, conditional on ElecLink’s service resumption. With a 1GW capacity, ElecLink significantly contributes to energy security in France and the UK.
