Global Growth of Chinese Medicine Research Documented by HKBU and Elsevier

A report released by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Elsevier reveals the increasing impact of Chinese Medicine research on global healthcare. The report, "Evolving Legacy: Decoding the Scientific Trajectory of Chinese Medicine," highlights significant growth and interdisciplinary applications of Chinese Medicine research from 2014 to 2023.

The findings show a compound annual growth rate of 10.6%, with research output nearly tripling during this period. Notably, 14.2% of Chinese Medicine papers ranked among the top 10% most-cited globally. The research demonstrates extensive interdisciplinary reach, engaging fields such as Biochemistry and Pharmacology.

Global collaboration is notably high, with Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR demonstrating over 80% cross-regional collaboration. Emerging research topics include COVID-19 applications, indicative of integrating modern methods like AI. The report calls for more standardized frameworks to elevate Chinese Medicine's scientific standing.
