Fresenius and WuXi Biologics Expand Biosimilars Portfolio
Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA has signed an exclusive development agreement with WuXi Biologics to expand its biosimilars pipeline significantly. The agreement grants Fresenius the option rights for up to 37 potential biosimilar candidates, boosting its portfolio from 29 to 66 molecules over the next decade. This expansion targets €370 billion in originator sales, marking it the largest agreement in the biosimilars industry.
Under this deal, Fresenius retains strategic flexibility and full commercialization rights, including the economics of developed products. It will craft long-term manufacturing strategies, possibly utilizing the mAbxience network, entirely owned since October 2026. The portfolio covers 13 therapeutic areas, using diverse biologic technologies such as monoclonal and bispecific antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates.
Development efforts leverage WuXi Biologics' global network, enhancing Fresenius’ Biopharma growth beyond its 2030 ambitions. The financial framework remains unchanged, with the development funded via operating cash flow, without requiring new financing.
