Freenet AG Explores Strategic Options for waipu.tv
On April 15, 2026, freenet AG announced its support for evaluating strategic options for its TV streaming and aggregation platform, waipu.tv. This initiative was initiated by Exaring AG's minority shareholders. Options include a potential Initial Public Offering (IPO), subject to market conditions and other parameters. However, freenet AG has no current plans to reduce its majority stake in Exaring AG, where it holds 74.6% as of the end of 2025.
waipu.tv has experienced significant growth, achieving nearly two million paying subscribers by the end of 2025. The platform runs on a proprietary fiber-optic network with a capacity of 18 Terabit/s, providing over 300 TV channels and a library of more than 40,000 movies and series. It plays a key role in transitioning 36 million German households from traditional TV formats to streaming services.
