France Proposes Digital Reform for Meal Voucher System

The French government, through Véronique Louwagie, Minister Delegate for Trade, Small Businesses, and the Social and Solidarity Economy, has proposed a reform to digitalize the meal voucher system by January 1, 2027. This move aims to modernize the system and simplify the process for restaurant owners.
The reform is expected to address public health and equity challenges by promoting healthy eating options for employees lacking access to company catering. It is also seen as a means to support the local economy and stimulate job creation, particularly benefiting the restaurant industry.
Currently, only 27% of French employees receive meal vouchers, but Edenred, a leading provider, believes the reform will extend benefits to more workers. The company lauds the digital shift as a long-awaited industry advancement.
Meal vouchers are a favored social benefit in France, involving 5.4 million employees and contributing significantly to the economy, with an annual impact of €9.4 billion.
