Market Expectations Ahead of US Midterm Elections

On November 3, control of the US Congress is at stake as citizens vote for all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats. These Midterm elections are seen as pivotal for the trajectory of President Donald Trump's remaining time in office. The Republicans currently hold 218 House seats to the Democrats' 214, with a 53-47 Senate majority. A Democratic sweep would require them to gain about four House seats, shifting control and influencing which bills come to a vote.

Prediction markets favor a Democratic victory, with a 67% probability of a sweep in both chambers. The likelihood of the Democrats winning the House stands at 93%. Despite these predictions, certainty remains elusive.

FP Markets' Chief Market Analyst Aaron Hill suggests that while historical trends show post-Midterm stock market gains, a Democratic sweep could pose challenges like increased corporate taxes. Investors can leverage FP Markets' platforms to navigate potential fluctuations.
