Flughafen Wien AG: Positive May Traffic Performance
Flughafen Wien AG reported positive passenger traffic for May, with a 0.7% year-on-year increase to 3.9 million passengers. This marks a sequential improvement from April for Vienna Airport, now performing at -5.4% year-on-year. Growth is mainly attributed to Malta, showing a 16.5% rise in passengers, contributing to a current year-to-date increase of 2.4% for the group.
Vienna Airport faces challenges from reduced low-cost carrier capacity and geopolitical tensions affecting flights to the Middle East. Nevertheless, improvements were seen as the Middle East impact lessened in May. In contrast, Malta's strong performance bolstered the overall group performance, reinforcing the stability provided by the diversified portfolio.
Peer data also indicates a recovering market, with a positive outlook possibly supported by geopolitical stabilisation. Flughafen Wien remains a robust infrastructure entity, financially secure with plans for Terminal 3 South progressing.
