Fernanda Maciel Sets Record at Salar de Uyuni
Brazilian athlete Fernanda Maciel has set a new fastest known time across the vast salt flats of Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. Crossing 172.8 kilometers, Maciel completed the route in 19 hours, 50 minutes, and 8 seconds, surpassing the previous record by over 13 hours.
The journey at an altitude of approximately 3,700 meters above sea level posed significant challenges due to reduced oxygen levels. Despite dealing with hailstorms and challenging terrain, Maciel maintained an adaptive pace, especially along the final 27-kilometer stretch.
This achievement adds to Maciel's list of records, as she continues her quest to hold fastest times on all Seven Summits. With records already on Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro, among others, Denali and Mount Everest remain on her list.
