Feather Insurance Identifies Key Stressors for Expats in Germany

Feather Insurance's recent study highlights the challenges faced by expats in Germany, emphasizing language barriers and local bureaucracy as the main stressors. Germany hosts over 17 million foreign-born residents, but settling in can be complex for many.

According to the research, 45% of expats find language differences challenging, while 35% struggle with bureaucracy. The emotional strain of moving abroad is significant, with half of respondents stating it was greater than expected. Additionally, 52% felt overwhelmed by administrative tasks, and 58% experienced loneliness.

Despite these difficulties, many expats still found the relocation worthwhile. Improved quality of life was reported by 71%, while language skills and fresh perspectives also benefitted. Feather's report indicates that stress reduces once administrative tasks are resolved, with 85% feeling reassured by having health insurance in place.
