Cost-of-Living Crisis Spurs European Expatriation

A recent study by Feather, a digital insurance platform, highlights a rising trend of Europeans planning to live abroad, fueled by the cost-of-living crisis. The survey, conducted across the UK, France, Germany, and Italy, indicates that nearly half of the respondents foresee relocating to a different country in their lifetime. France leads in this expectation with 57%, followed by Germany at 52%, Italy at 49%, and the UK at 48%.

Among Germans, 31% are seriously contemplating or actively planning a move, with 10% currently implementing plans. Similarly, significant percentages in the UK, Italy, and France are considering relocating due to financial pressures. The cost of living is the primary motivator, particularly in the UK, where 53% cite this as a reason.

Preferred destinations vary, with Spain being a top choice for both Britons and Italians, while French and Germans favor Canada and Austria, respectively. The study underlines the complex factors affecting modern relocation choices, beyond the traditional quest for better weather.
