European Consumers Grapple with Rising Cross-Border Shopping Costs

European consumers are feeling the strain of soaring prices and extra charges in cross-border online shopping, per a NielsenIQ study commissioned by KleinS. The research, conducted across Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Poland, highlights how these costs impact consumer behavior. Despite increased expenses, notably a reported 23% rise in living costs, consumers are not necessarily switching to local shopping options.

The study indicates that over half of the participants have reduced spending in various areas, emphasizing value for money in their purchasing decisions. Households continue to engage in cross-border shopping to maximize their budgets, often by comparing product prices more closely and altering their choices. As European debates on regulating cross-border online commerce continue, affordability remains a crucial factor for consumers, influencing both their choice of retailers and spending allocations.
