Eramet Partially Restarts Mineral Sands Production in Senegal
Three months after a fire incident at Eramet's Wet Concentration Plant in Senegal, the company has partially resumed Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC) production at 30% of its nameplate capacity. This gradual resumption marks a significant milestone for Eramet, with HMC production projected between 300 and 400 kt for 2026.
The temporary solutions implemented include using a Supplementary Dry Mining Unit to feed the plant, enabling the rebuilding of HMC inventories. The company anticipates partial resumption of finished product shipments by this summer, dependent on inventory levels.
Reconstruction of the damaged facilities is underway, aiming for a full capacity restoration by Q1 2027. Despite the setback, force majeure clauses remain active in supplier and customer contracts. This proactive recovery approach highlights Eramet's commitment to maintaining operational continuity and mitigating economic impacts.
