ENGIE Launches Largest Wind Complex in Brazil
ENGIE has officially commenced full operations at the Serra do Assuruá Wind Complex in Bahia, Brazil, featuring 846 MW of installed capacity. This development is ENGIE's largest onshore wind project worldwide and marks a significant milestone in Latin America's renewable energy landscape. Comprising 188 wind turbines across 24 farms, the complex includes 28 kilometers of transmission lines, linking it to the national grid.
The project, under the Brazilian regulatory framework, supplies renewable power directly to corporate consumers. It created approximately 3,000 jobs during construction, emphasizing local hires and skills development. The Bahia Qualification Program provided 60 free training spots, half dedicated to women, enhancing employability within the community.
ENGIE has also initiated community projects in Gentio do Ouro, focusing on social inclusion and infrastructure enhancements. These initiatives underscore ENGIE's commitment to sustainable and inclusive energy transitions. Active in Brazil for 30 years, ENGIE's operations span renewable generation, transmission, and energy solutions.
