Emerald Horizon Showcases SMRX in Berlin

Emerald Horizon AG, an energy technology firm based in Graz, introduced its small modular thorium reactor, SMRX, at the Austrian Trade Commission in Berlin. This presentation, part of the Feel Austria Week 2026, highlighted Austria's contributions to energy transition and industrial transformation. The event attracted various industry representatives, including those from business associations, energy agencies, and the Berlin press.

According to Norbert G. Hofer, Vice President of Strategic Communications, there is significant German interest in SMRX. German industries demand consistent, low-carbon energy, regardless of weather conditions. SMRX operates using a unique principle—subcritical design powered by a particle accelerator without using uranium or plutonium. It offers 10 megawatts of electricity per container-sized module for 20 years without refueling. Emerald Horizon hopes to launch a prototype by 2029, with mass production anticipated by 2031.
