Electric Metals Initiates Program to Enhance North Star Manganese Project
Electric Metals (USA) Limited has launched an optimization program for its North Star Manganese Project in Minnesota. This initiative aims to improve ore recovery, reduce costs, and establish a vital U.S. manganese supply chain. Currently, the U.S. imports all its manganese, a critical mineral essential for various industries, including steelmaking and battery production.
The North Star project, with its high-grade manganese deposit, is pivotal given global reliance on Chinese manganese production. The project has an assessed after-tax net present value of $1.39 billion and an after-tax internal rate of return of 43.5%.
Electric Metals is pursuing various technical enhancements. These include improving mine planning and ore selectivity, increasing feed grade through advanced ore sorting, and optimizing chemical processes to lower costs. These steps are intended to progress the project toward pre-feasibility and drive future development.
