Eiffage Secures Contract for Merwede Bridge Structures in Netherlands
Eiffage, through its Belgian subsidiary Iemants, has been awarded a contract for building an arch and a moveable structure for the new West Merwede Bridge, as part of the A27 Houten – Hooipolder project in the Netherlands. The contract was granted by the ALSÉÉN consortium, consisting of Ballast Nedam and Fluor, on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Ministry’s infrastructure agency.
The existing Merwede Bridge is a pivotal north-south route near Gorinchem. The new project aims to modernize this corridor, ensuring better traffic flow and safety. The construction involves a 258-meter steel arch and a 53-meter moveable section, totaling approximately 8,240 tonnes of steel. Assembly commenced in June 2026, with completion anticipated by 2030. This project underscores Eiffage’s prowess in major infrastructure projects.
