Empowering Visually Impaired Youth in the Central African Republic

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) funds UNICEF Training Centres in Bangui, Central African Republic, to empower children with vision impairments. These centres enable children like 20-year-old Urielle to access education for the first time. Urielle, who lost her eyesight at three, attends a centre where she learns braille, unlocking new passions like social science and storytelling.

Despite societal stigma, Urielle receives support from her parents and teachers. She aspires to become a journalist and a Paralympic athlete, driven by a desire to share stories and inspire others. ECW has supported educational programs in the Central African Republic since 2017, aiming to provide quality education and support for children with disabilities.
