EDF unveils a projected cost estimate of 72.8 billion for the EPR2 program

EDF has announced a preliminary cost estimate of €72.8 billion for the construction of six EPR2 reactors. The sites involved include Penly, Gravelines, and Bugey. The budget for 2026 is €2.7 billion.

The first reactor at Penly is scheduled to be commissioned in 2038. Subsequent reactors are expected to be operational every 12 to 18 months.

The government is planning support measures, including a subsidized loan and a 40-year contract for difference, subject to approval by the European Commission. A final decision on this investment is expected by the end of 2026.
