Commerzbank Launches €1.2bn Share Buyback
Commerzbank AG has initiated a share buyback program valued at up to €1.2 billion. Starting 4 September 2026, the program is expected to conclude by 10 February 2027. This is part of a broader capital return strategy for the financial year 2026, aiming to return approximately €3.2 billion to shareholders.
The European Central Bank and the German Finance Agency have both greenlit this move. The share repurchase will bolster Commerzbank's capital return policy, with past buyback shares having already been cancelled. Commerzbank CEO Bettina Orlopp noted that these initiatives reflect the strength of the bank's business model, highlighting the alignment with shareholder interests and long-term success goals.
The proposed capital return comprises share buybacks and a planned dividend, targeting a net profit of at least €3.4 billion. Weekly updates on the buyback will be accessible on Commerzbank's website.
