Climate Change: A Growing Threat to Global Skin Health

A recent study highlights the significant impact of climate change on skin health across the globe. The research, unveiled at the EADV Congress 2026, shows more than 40% of countries face climate-related changes in skin disease prevalence and severity. Lower-income countries are particularly vulnerable, with over half reporting changes in skin health.

The study encompassed 136 countries from different income groups, revealing stark geographical disparities. The Western Pacific Region, Eastern Mediterranean, and South-East Asia reported the highest changes, while Europe's reports were minimal.

Heat rashes and inflammatory skin diseases are on the rise alongside changes in infectious and vector-borne diseases. The findings emphasize the need for enhanced surveillance and education to combat these growing challenges, particularly in under-resourced regions.
