Chinese Opera Gala Launches in Zhouzhuang with 46 Genres
The 2026 Chinese Opera Gala in Zhouzhuang, launched on September 23, is a cultural showcase running through November. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, the event presents 57 excerpts and 10 full-length productions across 46 opera genres.
At the opening, 16 organizations received certificates for outstanding opera-related projects. Additionally, The China Kunqu Opera Blue Book 2026 and an AI-generated micro-drama debuted, enhancing cultural engagement.
Visitors enjoyed an immersive opera experience and exhibitions like "Flourishing Opera." The gala's continuous program includes performances, preservation activities for threatened opera genres, and forums to introduce new audiences to traditional opera arts.
Since 2018, the gala has become a hub for China's opera, attracting over 214,000 attendees and generating 355 million online views.
