BNP Paribas on track for appeal in Sudan dispute
On January 7, 2026, BNP Paribas was granted permission to appeal the October verdict in its dispute concerning Sudan. The bank welcomed this decision, which allows it to continue the legal proceedings.
BNP Paribas has contested the verdict from the outset, deeming it flawed in both factual and legal terms. The bank maintains that the Swiss legal rules applied during the trial were misinterpreted. It plans to demonstrate these errors on appeal in order to have the initial verdict overturned.
The October verdict concerns three specific plaintiffs. BNP Paribas believes that any broader involvement would be incorrect and is actively preparing to defend its position on appeal, confident in the strength of its arguments.
