BlackBerry Shows Positive Growth in Q1 Fiscal Year 2027
BlackBerry has reported a significant 26% increase in revenue year-over-year, reaching approximately $153 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. This increase was driven by strong performances from both QNX and Secure Communications, contributing to the company's fifth consecutive quarter of positive GAAP net income. Adjusted EBITDA grew by 144%, while GAAP operating income rose to about $15 million. The company also achieved its first positive operating cash flow in nine years, excluding patent sales.
CEO John J. Giamatteo highlighted the transformation strategy, aimed at continued profitable growth, with particular focus on software-defined vehicles and embedded systems. QNX, a key component, saw a revenue increase of 26% to $72.3 million, achieving a 27% margin. Similarly, Secure Communications' revenue rose by 24% to $73.6 million with a 27% margin as well.
The quarter ended with BlackBerry holding $422.9 million in cash and investments, underscoring financial stability. Moving forward, the company provides guidance for the second fiscal quarter, with expectations for total revenue in the range of $137 to $148 million.
