Bison Bank: The first Portuguese bank to be MiCA-approved for crypto-asset services
Bison Bank has become the first Portuguese bank authorized under the MiCA regulation to provide crypto-asset services, positioning itself as a major player in financial innovation in Europe. This development is part of the merger with Bison Digital Assets, approved by the Bank of Portugal. Since 2022, BDA had already established itself as the first VASP (Vehicle Asset Service Provider) owned by a Portuguese bank.
The bank aims to combine traditional banking strength with digital flexibility. With €165 million in transactions projected for 2025, it intends to accelerate its digital services. Boasting a net profit of €5 million and a strong CET1 ratio, Bison Bank benefits from a robust structure. It was recently recognized at the Euromoney Global Private Banking Awards 2026 for its expertise in digital assets.
