Bastei Lübbe Reports Revenue Growth Amid Profitability Decline
Bastei Lübbe AG, a Germany-based publishing group, revealed a 3.8% increase in revenues, reaching €118.4 million for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. Despite the rise in revenues, the EBIT dropped significantly to €9.3 million, marking a reduced margin of 7.9%, compared to the previous year's 15%. This decline is attributed to higher production costs and a less favorable revenue mix.
The company acknowledged the challenging market, yet maintained strategic investments in new products and markets. The digital business expanded, contributing 32% to revenues. However, community-driven models contracted, affecting overall profitability.
The Book segment experienced revenue growth, primarily due to successful releases from authors like Dan Brown and Ken Follett. Still, increased costs and lower high-margin segment performance resulted in a reduced EBIT for the segment.
Bastei Lübbe projects stable revenues and a significant profitability improvement in the 2026/2027 fiscal year, anticipating an EBIT increase of up to 30%.
