Commerzbank's Chief Risk Officer Bernd Spalt to Step Down
Commerzbank has announced that Bernd Spalt, its Chief Risk Officer, will step down when his current contract ends on December 31, 2026. Spalt decided not to seek an extension for personal reasons, wishing to return to his family in Vienna. The bank's Supervisory Board was informed of his decision on February 10.
Jens Weidmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, praised Spalt for his contribution to stability and trust during a challenging period. CEO Bettina Orlopp expressed her regret over his decision but acknowledged his lasting impact on the bank's risk function.
Bernd Spalt joined Commerzbank in January 2024 and played a key role in supporting the bank's strategic goals. The Supervisory Board is currently searching for his successor, and further announcements will be made in due course.
