Commerzbank Sees No Value in UniCredit Proposal

Commerzbank has announced its decision to not pursue a transaction with UniCredit after recent interactions. The bank asserts that UniCredit has not demonstrated sufficient value beyond Commerzbank’s current standalone strategy. Moreover, UniCredit reportedly showed no willingness to offer an adequate premium to Commerzbank's shareholders.

Commerzbank highlighted regular dialogue with UniCredit over the past 18 months, yet noted that UniCredit had not presented specific requests or suggestions for collaboration. Commerzbank believes the proposed transaction lacks the potential to create added value and can be pursued independently without the risks of merging.

Commerzbank remains focused on its momentum strategy. The bank plans to announce upgraded financial targets with its quarterly results on 8 May 2026, with optimism for further growth past its initial targets for 2028. Commerzbank remains open to proposals that deliver concrete value for its shareholders.
