Bernd Spalt to Step Down as Commerzbank's Chief Risk Officer
Commerzbank's Chief Risk Officer, Bernd Spalt, will complete his current contract but will not pursue an extension. He is set to resign on December 31, 2026, citing personal reasons for the decision. Spalt informed the Supervisory Board during a meeting on February 10. A successor plan is to be announced in due time.
Jens Weidmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, expressed regret over Spalt's decision. He acknowledged Spalt's contributions to Commerzbank's stability and trust. Meanwhile, CEO Bettina Orlopp praised Spalt's impact on the bank's risk function.
Spalt joined Commerzbank in January 2024 and played a pivotal role in supporting the bank's strategic objectives. He emphasized that his decision was based on family considerations. The search for a new Chief Risk Officer is underway.
