Bafin Rejects MiCAR Authorisation for Futurum Bank AG

Bitcoin Group SE announced that Bafin, the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, has denied the MiCAR authorisation application of its subsidiary, futurum bank AG. The application, submitted on June 27, 2025, was for authorisation as a crypto-asset service provider under the EU Regulation 2023/1114. This decision has profound implications for Bitcoin.de, futurum bank AG's platform, prompting a significant business model reevaluation.

In anticipation of such an outcome and after a 15-month delay during the authorisation process, futurum bank AG had prepared by suspending trading activities since June 12, 2026. The bank aims to form a partnership with a regulated German institution to allow customers to resume trading via a new bitcoin.de app. Despite the setback, customer assets will remain secure until their transfer.
