Record exports: China is making its mark on the global automotive industry

Chinese car exports reached a record high in the first half of 2026 with 5.096 million units. The BYD and Chery brands played a central role in this expansion. Chery, the leading exporter of passenger cars for 23 years, now has a voting right in the revision of international automotive standards. This change marks a transition: China is no longer a passive player but an active contributor to their development.

The Chery Fulwin T7, known internationally as the LEPAS L6, exemplifies this evolution. Designed for global markets, it was launched internationally before its introduction in China. Experts note that the impact of China's participation in setting global standards extends beyond simply increasing exports. Traditional manufacturers must now adapt to this growing competition.
