Swiss car market under pressure in July 2025
In July 2025, the new passenger car market in Switzerland and Liechtenstein recorded 19,629 registrations, an increase of 6.5% compared to July 2024. However, this growth is largely due to technical adjustments and does not reflect a sustainable positive trend. Since the beginning of the year, 132,762 vehicles have been registered, marking a decline of 4.9% compared to the same period in 2024.
The growth of electric vehicles continues, with 4,083 new registrations in July 2025, representing an increase of 18.9% compared to the previous year. Including plug-in hybrids, plug-in vehicles reach a market share of 33.1%. Despite this increase, the 50% target for the end of the year remains elusive.
According to Thomas Rücker, CEO of auto-suisse, the development of electromobility requires increased support and incentives such as improved charging infrastructure and favorable electricity tariffs.
