Slowdown in the Swiss car market in July 2026

In July 2026, the Swiss car market experienced a decline of 3.2%. This drop reflects the fragile trends observed since the beginning of the year, which saw a slight recovery of 2.1%. Conversely, demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, now accounting for 36.6% of new registrations for the year. However, the economic situation remains precarious, partly due to the "Swiss Finish" and regulations considered excessive.

Electric and hybrid vehicles continue to gain ground, each having increased by more than 20% since the beginning of the year. Fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids account for 24.2% and 12.4% of new registrations, respectively. Meanwhile, gasoline and diesel cars are seeing their market share decline. Industry professionals are calling for regulatory relief to further stimulate the market.
