ANDRITZ to Modernize Gabčíkovo Hydroelectric Power Plant in Slovakia
International technology group ANDRITZ, alongside Slovak engineering firm VUJE, has secured a contract from VODOHOSPODÁRSKA VÝSTAVBA to modernize Slovakia's Gabčíkovo hydroelectric power plant. This facility is vital, producing about 10% of Slovakia's electricity. The project entails comprehensive upgrades to the plant’s electromechanical equipment, which has a capacity of 720 MW, to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Valued in the mid three-digit million-euro range, this project is part of ANDRITZ's third-quarter 2026 order intake. The modernization will involve refurbishing eight Kaplan turbine-generator units to meet contemporary technical standards, improving efficiency and extending equipment life by 30 years.
The scope includes engineering, manufacturing, installation, and system updates. To minimize impact, the work will be done sequentially to ensure ongoing operations. This initiative highlights ANDRITZ’s role in advancing renewable energy infrastructure.
