RWE Increases Stake in Amprion to Support Grid Expansion

Amprion GmbH has announced that RWE is increasing its stake in the company to an indirect majority holding, boosting support for major investments in the German transmission grid. Through acquiring shares in M31 Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co Energie KG, the main shareholder of Amprion, RWE secures a 35% indirect interest in Amprion. Combined with its existing 20% investment through RWE Alkaios Holding GmbH, RWE's total indirect shareholding rises to 55%.

Amprion's CEO, Dr Christoph Müller, emphasized that the transaction signals confidence in their strategy and aids in financing significant investments needed for grid expansion. RWE's CEO, Dr Markus Krebber, highlighted the growth opportunities this expansion provides.

Despite this transaction, Amprion maintains its status as an Independent Transmission Operator (ITO), ensuring non-discriminatory grid operation. The support aligns with Amprion's investment plans of approximately 42 billion euros by 2030 towards achieving climate neutrality.
