AMAG Austria Metall AG Prepares New Electricity Contract for Alouette Smelter

AMAG Austria Metall AG has announced the preparation of a significant long-term electricity contract for the Aluminerie Alouette Inc. smelter in Québec. This comes through a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Québec government and Hydro-Québec. The contract aims to secure 1,085 MW of power from 2030 to 2045 at competitive rates, essential for North America's largest aluminium smelter.

The agreement includes 1,035 MW for standard operations and 50 MW for potential growth, aligning with the current price structure that adapts to aluminium pricing. This lays the groundwork for sustainable development within AMAG's strategic framework, boosting the smelter's profitability and advancing technological and environmental initiatives.

The Alouette smelter, producing over 620,000 tonnes of primary aluminium annually, represents a key part of AMAG's supply chain, crucial for both AMAG Ranshofen and the broader market. The new contract is set to enhance energy efficiency and align with future-oriented goals in automation and sustainability.
