Alstom Secures Major Traxx Shunter Platform Order with Northrail
Alstom has announced an important framework agreement with Northrail, a leading European rolling stock leasing company, for up to 100 Traxx Shunter locomotives. Announced at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin, this deal signifies a significant step forward for Alstom in terms of shunting locomotive production. The agreement, valued at potentially 700 million euros, underscores Northrail's trust in Alstom's capabilities.
First deliveries under this contract will happen in late 2029. The locomotives benefit from both pantograph and diesel propulsion and are designed to offer flexibility and energy efficiency. Alstom plans to design and assemble these locomotives at its Belfort center in France.
The move is a part of Alstom’s strategy to address the need for more sustainable transportation solutions. Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, sees this as a key step towards providing greener transportation options and meeting stakeholder demands. The locomotives promise lower energy and maintenance costs, reducing overall operational expenditures from the outset.
