Air Liquide to Expand and Electrify Oxygen Facility in Shaanxi
Air Liquide has announced an investment of approximately 25 million euros to upgrade its Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Yulin, Shaanxi Province, China. This revamp will convert the current steam-driven ASU to a more efficient electricity-driven system. The transition aims to cut CO2 emissions by 224,000 tonnes annually, with reductions reaching 550,000 tonnes through gradual low-carbon energy sourcing.
The project will also boost the facility's oxygen production capacity by 10% and is projected to be operational by the end of 2027. This investment aligns with China's 2030/2060 carbon peaking and neutrality targets. The contract was concluded during President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Beijing.
Air Liquide's partnership with Yangchang Group, which began in 2008, emphasizes tailored decarbonization solutions. The company operates more than 140 plants in China and focuses on industrial and medical gas services.
