A slight optimism for the Swiss car market in 2026
In March 2026, the Swiss passenger car market showed signs of improvement. With 23,258 new registrations, representing a 7.2% increase compared to March 2025, a positive trend appears to be emerging. The first quarter saw modest growth of 0.6% compared to the previous year, despite a challenging 2025.
Plug-in hybrids are experiencing significant growth, with a 31.3% increase compared to the previous year. These vehicles account for a third of all new registrations. However, fully electric vehicles are seeing moderate growth of 6.3%, hampered by infrastructure constraints and the cost of electricity.
Thomas Rücker, director of auto-suisse, expresses cautious optimism, stressing the importance of renewing the vehicle fleet for reducing emissions and improving road safety.
