A quarter of new Swiss trucks will be electric by 2026

The Swiss market for new commercial vehicles grew by 6.7% in the first quarter of 2026, with a notable focus on electrification. Indeed, one in four newly registered trucks is now electric. From January to March, 9,406 commercial vehicles were registered, including 1,073 heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, marking a 15.6% increase compared to the previous year.

Trucks in this segment account for 26.8% of fully electric vehicles. The subsidy system is facilitating this transition, although light commercial vehicles are progressing more slowly, with 12.2% BEVs and 3.1% plug-in hybrids. Meanwhile, "business" vehicles are stagnating at 5% of registrations due to persistent regulatory hurdles.
